Default Moates or Megasquirt?

So, i've been looking for more control over my car, and originally i was set on the megasquirt. and before you say 'get a handheld' i dont like having to shell out cash for "pre-made" tunes or even more cash for tunes done in a shop by some incompetant fool (in jersey atm, and im tired of the dumbasses that live and work here)

but i recently found Moates.net, which looks like its basically hacking into the EEC and reprogramming it, this would require less work labor wise as far as i can tell (havent read too much about it, lot of the documentation seems like its for 5.0's, but it says it supports the EEC-V) than the megasquirt which would be a major benefit.

Just wondering if anyone out there has used either or both of these on a newer EEC-V? and any experiences with them?

I haven't had any hands on with either, but have heard the Megasquirt is not that hard to use.

Now, here is another option for you... Sniper Commando. You have full control of the pcm, can change and reflash tunes all day long and don't need to change or add no harnesses. We have done a couple special buys here on MF and everyone who has bought it, likes how it works.

If you have any questions, let me know.

yea, but the worst thing about that is price :/ 635$ to me is rediculous. still better than a dyno i guess, since you can change it later. but im still lookin at max 400$ for a megasquirt (more precisely a MS-II) setup. doesnt mean im not considering it, im just really leaning hard toward the megasquirt.

thanks for the suggestion tho, i went to one website that was filled with the Sniper stuff, but couldnt make sense of exactly what i needed. at least i have something to compare against.

what shops in jersey are you going too? Depending on the year of your car there are many competent shops in jersey.

I have some goods things about megasquirt but nothing about the other stuff.

Sniper tuner is laptop driven software to reprogram your ECU I think. You can look into that, from what I've seen, it's very detailed in the way you're able to customize.
