Default EGR line question

The vacuum lines that run to various parts (from egr sensor to intake and fuel pressure regulator)... am I able to cut and shorten one line and extend another without any ill effects? If that can be done, what is the best way to reconnect them. Thanks in advance.

i just use small pieces of rubber vaccum hose to tap into the stock plastic lines. Use some wire ties to tighten them down
