Yes another 5.4 swap thread
2001 Mustang GT, swapping out the old engine which blew
1. What years should I be looking for as far as getting a 5.4 navigator engine
2. Is there a website I can go to to look for engines which have been pulled
3. I am having a mechanic do a turnkey job. What is the (LOW) and (HIGH) I should expect to pay i.e. a price range either for the whole deal or for the engine and the labor?
4. The mechanic wants me to tow the Mustang in to his shop tomorrow before he will quote me a price. He says there is no charge he just wants to look at the engine and make sure its blown. I talked to a couple of people and they said this is how mechanics do business and its normal but to me it looks like the beginning of a bad automotive repair shop experience. Is it reasonable for him to ask us to tow the car in with so little information ?

Personally I would want to see what I was getting into as the mechanic - but on the other hand - who cares if the engine is blown - your paying him to do the swap - it wouldnt really matter if the engine was good or not -
I have no experience with paying someone to do an engine swap - but its not gonna be cheap ....
There are a lot of used engine sources online - google should turn up hundreds, rockauto - lists junkyards across the country if I remember correctly, ebay, craigslist---maybe, and forums.
As for which engine - there's a lot of debate over 2v or 4v ... again Just google it and you can read the millions of reasons why which one is easier - I think it boils down to 2v is easier -- but 4v makes more power...

Its gonna be expensive but i wouldn't even consider it unless unless he is fairly knowledgeable about modular motors.
I believe pre 2001 Nav motors have a forged crank and is a non NVH(Noise, vibration, harshness) block, which is a little lighter
