RE: buying 2002 GT
How ya doin'? I don't currently have a Mustang(hopefully soon) but my friend has a 2000 GT 5-speed. His fourth gear has been giving him problems for awhile and then this weekend he lost third and fourth. The trans is a T-45. I believe sometime throughout the 2001 model year Ford switched the manual trans to a tremec 3650 which is supposed to be a better tranny. If your looking for a manual, I would go for a late 2001 or newer. I'm assumimg any 2001 built after january would have the upgraded tranny. Also, 2001 was the first year all GT's got the hoodscoop(non-functional) and larger side scoops. Anyway, I hope this helps you out. Oh yeah, if the back tires are bald and the fronts look good, it was probably driven pretty hard. I know from experience lol!

Check the mods that have been done to the car. That does not mean it's been dogged, but if it's heavily modded, it's probably had the sh*t run out of it. Other than that, just look the car over like you would if you were buying a grocery getter. And yes the transmissions were changed in mid 01. Of course mine was bought in Oct 2000.

Just look at the general condition of the car. Make sure to test drive it and try to find anomalies like weird vibrations. Also, look at the tire wear which may or may not be an indication of lots of burnouts. Also look for dings, curb rash on the rims, etc. See if the interior was taken care of. Find out if you can get some service records. Test everything! (wipers/fluid, brakes, turn signals, lights, brake lights, reverse light, shifting through all gears, all lights, power seats/mirrors, cd player (if equipped), especially CD changers, windows, locks...) When you test drive it, look for service engine light, also look at the oil temp and water temps. Check Emergency Brake. Open doors, hood, trunk. Look at the spare tire/jack. Definitly look for over spray with the paint or things that don't line up right. If you can get it up on a lift. Look for signs of the car bottoming out. See if you can spot any weird welds. Search for Rust. Definitly check out the AC. Look for stains in the carpeting/holes in the seats...

look at the person selling it. if it's an old person, then there's a less likely chance he drove it hard. if it's a younger guy, early 20s, late teens, don't bother.

Yeah, so if someone like nanaki drove it.. don't even bother; the car's on it's last legs.
