im considering in buying a 2000-2002 GT and was wondering what are some things that i should look for in the car. what are weak points of the vehicle and how can i tell if the previous owner has been racing or running the ar hard. Thank you for all the help you wil give.

Well im the type of person to save all my service reciepts for every service performed on my car from a oil change to the direct FI flush. I would ask for those.

Personally... knowing what I know today, I wouldnt buy just a stock stang from a dealer. I would get online and go to different sites till you find something that will please you all around. Something like a car thats already built and blown, you will save a LOT of money in the long run. But if you are looking for stock... then go stock.

dont get a 00, go for the 01 or 02. look for a nice clean car, with not that many mods. for instance if a car that you are looking at has a drag suspencion on it and line lock, most likely they take it to the track alot. personally i would not buy a car with any internal engine work done to it, you really dont know who did that work, and what quality of work to they do. thats just me. ask to see if any work on the car and matanence has been documented, like oil changes. there is a way to make sure that car has not been on a frame straightener, im not sure how and were to check, its under the car. i will ask my uncle who has been a mechanic yor 20+ years and try to get back to you on that. (its a machine that straightens the frame after the car has been in a crash.) i hope that helps in you findings, good luck.

what is the difference b/w the 2000 and the 01 and 02 GTs? any problems i should be aware of with these cars? anything that will make me have to spend more money on it with a mechanic?
