Overheating
In the southwest its really hot atm and over the passed 2 weeks of getting the head gaskets replaced the car is overheating in a odd way. City driving the car stays in the middle or just bellow the R and M. When I get on the highway going 70 mph the cars temp guage slowly climbs passed the M and slightly into the A and still climbing by that point I have my vent heat on high keeping it from moving any farther. I have tried water wetter and it seems to have helped in the city driving but not the highway. Although when I drained the coolant out I had very small pebbles and sand grains in the coolant. Mabey I just need my system flushed? or is my radiator not working properly? The water pump works fine.
Why is it just starting to overheat on the highway and not on the city roads. The car doesnt drop in temp very fast then I get off the highway onto the city roads(even at night).

I would check the thermostat for starters. You can just microwave some water and put it in there - it should open up if the water is hot enough (water boils at 212 or 208 at 2,000 ft above sea level).
As for the coolant - SAND AND PEBBLES - you really need to flush it - After that if your still experiencing problems - head gasket starting to leak maybe ..... other issues ....
My stang never did this but I had an old dodge with a 360 - ran real hot - I flushed it - changed the stat - and it ran like new...

How about this?
May sound stupid, did you physically check if your fan is working, both high and low speeds? Perhaps at high speed your fan may not be kicking in. You really have to listen good for it to kick in. Also, I would go with a 180 degree thermostat. To me, the stock thermostat runs the engine too hot. Good luck, Tommy.
