Default Stripped Strut...

So i was gunna swap my springs with some shorter ones -- im running QA1 coilover's, i got the passenger side ones done, but i having a problem with the driver side.

the top of the strut is flat on 2 sides, but the last place i took it to stripped it slightly, as well as torqued it down to like 250ft lb's, and when i went to try and get it off, it slipped and stripped more... so now im stuck on what to do. i talked to the shop that did it, and the guy that worked on my car was fired before i even called.

i've tried adjustable wrenches, and the only thing i can think of is maybe heating it up with a torch, maybe using vice grips, or something. im still looking for a reputable shop i can trust, but those are hard to come by.

it really sux cuz if i cant reliably get the strut off im gunna be down another 250$ for a damn strut...

i just cant seem to have ANY luck with ANY shops unless insurance is involved...

My cousin did something similar to what you did. He just took a dremel tool and cut the nut off, then took a tap and die set and cleaned up the threads. Its worked great for him with no other problems.

hmmm nice, yea i was also thinkin about takin a dremel to the strut shaft and squaring it off so i could try again with adjustable wrenches. but thats kind of risky. good idea on cuttin the nut off though, just gotta find another one, anyone know what size it is?

I'm not sure on the size. I just took the old nut to the hardware store and matched it up with a new one.

you could always weld a nut to the top of the shaft to loosen the original nut, then grind off the other nut and proceed with cleaning up the threads with a tap n die set.
