They changed a few things in late 01 on the 4.6L. Thats why you'll see 99-01 01.5-04 on parts. I don't remember what was changed on the engine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

Before you put the new engine in you should do some mods while it is still out of the car. PI swap and/or a better cam, headers, torque converter, etc...

It may be a chunk of change now but will save you alot of time, money and effort in the long run.

I was going to say like above, if you're going to have the engine pulled out of that '97 sitting around for a short period of time, it would be an excellent time to find a complete PI swap *heads with cam/intake* and bolt that stuff up while the motor is out of the car.

Would make the work take half the time. Specifically manuevering the head on and off the block, and dealing with valve cover bolts while crammed against the fenderwell.

yea thats all true, the car has ALOT if stuff on it. BBK o/r X, SLP exhaust. CAI, 70mm tb, accufab plenum, MSD packs and wires, Diablo tunes, 4.10 gears, Hotchkis uca & lca. BBK coils, KYB shocks, cobra r rims, newer brakes, B&M hammer shifter, full mb quart component speakers, alpine head-unit. Car has 90,000 second owner since 30,000 no accidents and he wants $2000 for the car, the motor i have lined up for $850. I called and left a message but he isnt picking up, so im hoping it still available. I think its a pretty good deal,

$850 for a non-pi motor is a little high IMO. I bought an 03 motor from a guy once for $600. put a new cobra oil pump and matching high flow pickup tube in there while your at it. good insurance

I think you are referring to the block change. 99-00 were windsor blocks, 01+ are Romeo. but all new edges are PI.
