Need somebody who know's the 4.6 pretty good
Hey guys i normally stay in the 5.0 section but an idea has led me here. Basically i found a 98gt with a seized motor due to oil pump failure. (from what i understand its not too uncommon) anyways i found a replacement 4.6 out of a 97gt which is totally complete still has the radiator hoses on it and was pulled out of the car around 3 days ago. Will i need the computer too? Is there any thing else that i would need besides the motor to make this swap? Has anyone swapped motors on these cars, is it difficult can it be done in my garage with an engine hoist, me and my little brother? 5.0's are relatively easy to pull and swap motors but i have never really been around 4.6 mustangs so anyone with the experience in this subject please let me know. Also the 98 has been tuned with a diablo if that matters.

direct swap, keep all your wiring and ecm
I would get a 4.6 out of a 1999 Mustang, or 2001 up Crown Victoria or Lincoln.
They have more power/Direct Swap,
Easy? remove the upper intake and use two bolts to lift the engine, I did that, thread them in good.
Dont fight the exhaust, unbolt the headers from the head and let hang(IF YOU CAN GET TO THEM), IF NOT DROP THE EXAHUST

The motor is a direct drop in basically. Its the same as doing any other ind of motor swap, just a bunch of connectors and nuts an bolts. You can re-use the PCM too
I recommend pulling the trans and h-pipe first, that makes maneuvering the motor around so much easier

99 and up is when the went PI right? ford changed the heads and intake correct? I forgot to add that the 98 is an auto. the 97 motor didnt say anything about being out of a manual or auto, but i guess it doesn't really matter

Direct swap. It's one of the easier motors to work on. I pulled mine for the first time in around 5 hours with basic tools and a hoist. One night and I had it on the engine stand. I could probably drop that down to 4 hours now.
