Default whats the deal?

for my 04 gt the owners manual says 6 qts of oil....i put 6 in and it is barely past the fill line on the dipstick.....do i need another qt??

a guy i work with has an 01 and his is full with 5 1/2 qts......and he said he has a friend with one who says his takes 7 1/2 qts to fill............ this is beat, maybe il stop on the way home and get another qt

1) These heads hold alot of oil.....give it plenty of time to sit after running....which still leaves a decent amount in heads anyways.

2)These dipsticks arent the most reliable.....5-6 quarts will be fine regardless of the reading on the dipstick unless you're leaking.

yeah i just searched and see that the numbers are all over the place, im gonna stop on the way hmoe and get another qt and probably put 1/2 of it in to be safe

+1 my 04 GT is the same way.

Theres been tons of threads about this and basically some people have determined that 6 quarts is not quite enough and running 7 quarts allows for proper circulation of oil at WOT. I just put in alittle more than 6 and I read right under full which is fine with me.

Oh and one more thing...this might be terribly obvious to some of you but make sure that if you are starting your car up for a while to get the oil to go through the filter and all...give it minutes to let all the oil drip down to the pan after your shut off...

7-7.5 quarts for my 96 GT. That 6 quarts is a crock.

All Modular motors take 6 quarts. Make sure your dip stick tube is all the way in the block.
