I'm converting my 67 to rear discs using SN-95 style brakes on a 9", a guy told me that the GT and cobra calipers are the same but use thinner brake pads for the cobra and different axle brackets.........is this true?

yes that is correct. the cobra rears use a bigger rotor so the caliper bracket and pad are different
