99-04 4.6 Engine Swap
I have a 2000 Mustang Gt and spun a rod.
Need to replace the motor. Was wondering if any of the 99-04 4.6 GT engines would fit into my car. I was told i can only swap between the 99 and 00. Please help ASAP as I found a 03 engine with 38k miles going for 1000 and I really need to get back on the road. Thanks In Advance!!!!!! |

6 and 8 bolt shouldn't make a difference as long as you make sure to use a clutch for a T-45.

99 - mid 01 = 8 bolt flywheel mid 01 - 04 = 6 bolt |

the guy said my clutch would fit a 99-04 at jegs
so is this 6 bolt vs 8 bolt thing mean that it wont? i dont really know much about cars if you cant already tell. please hold my hand . . . i wont squeeze too hard |
ok hold on here... let me think.... you are going to have to buy a flywheel if the engine doesn't come with one. Because your flywheel is an 8bolt and your new one will be a 6 bolt.
The flywheel for the 96-98 (stock comes as 10.5"),which use the T-45 trans, is the same as the flywheel for the mid 01-04 (stock comes with 11"), which use the 3650 trans. That means the clutch for the T-45 and the clutch for the 3650 would have the same bolt pattern to the fly wheel. The 03, if it comes with a flywheel should be an 11", 6 bolt flywheel and your 11", 8 bolt clutch should bolt to it. I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense... I confused myself half way through this and I think I fixed it but not sure. |
