Default Help! The threads came out with my oil filter!!?!

I guess the last place to do my oil change made the filter too tight, so when I was removing the filter this time the entire threads came out still attached to the oil filter! Now I am stuck in the garage with this issue.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get it out of the filter without messing up the threads, or will this need to be replaced?

Update: Ford has the part at $15.60 so might as well just replace it =/

^ you got it $16 fix, next time take some oil put it on your finger, rub it around the rim/threads of the new oil filter and only hand tighten it, pressure will do the rest.

The other Ford dealer is giving me a cost of $97.04 and said thats because I have an oil cooler.

Has anyone replaced this before that can shed some light? Same car as my sig, motor is all stock.

Also... put a skim coat of oil on the rubber gasket of filter as they can become "glued" to the block and create a big problem as well. I would think the broken threads of the filter would be pretty easy to remove as it is just aluminum. One could take Channel locks and just gently squeeze the threads on a couple different sides as this should stretch them enough to unscrew right off the block.

The threads are actually stuck into my old oil filter lol, so its just a matter of getting the new adapter and putting it back on along with the new oil filter. Such a hassle b/c no place stocks this stupid part!

So it is a double-threaded piece that came un-treaded fromt the block?

I guess that makes sense, but would think it would be much tighter into the block so the described problem would not arrise. I would think the inside of this double-threaded adapter would have a hex so could be removed from the filter and re-torqued into the block.

Pics?

I tightened the adapter on my car. It does accept a large hex key / allen wrench (I think it was 1/2"). That was with the filter removed and the adapter on the block still. I can't say if the hex hole runs straight through to the other side or not because when I had it off I didn't check..

The reason I messed with it was because my gasket for the cooler was leaking.

to DJP: I recommend cleaning the surfaces and replacing your gasket in the meantime since you have it all apart. Mine was dripping everywhere..
