Replacing bearing, what needs to be done?
So I'm going to have to replace my throw out bearing. Question is, can I just unbolt the tranny..or am I going to have to take off the H pipe too? Still has stock manifolds on it though. Reason I ask is because it's going to probably be a pain in the @$$ to get to the bolts that connect the manifolds to the H pipe right?

Pipe must be removed.
How many miles on clutch and how does it feel? Probably a good idea to replace the clutch too as it is a lot of work to get in there. Jazzer :) |

Yes, the pipes have to come down/ No, it's not that hard to get at them if you have a decent set of tools. At 72,000 miles, change that clutch, it's on it's way out anyway.

Pickup a socket swivel joint and that bolt will be much easier to reach. I agree - replace the clutch while you're in there.
Also, you might want to look at your pilot bearing and rear main seal and replace if needed. To Jazzer for confirmation. |
Thanks guys. It's going to be a winter project at this rate considering it keeps raining just about every day.

Yes.... replace that clutch and best to get a pilot bearing while in there along with ALL the moving parts. Will not cost that much to get the clutch fork arm and the round-head bolt that supports it. I also recommend you hit up my T-56 swap thread and consider Jazzer's Super-Duper T.O. bearing magnetico retraction device as linked in there :icon_google: (< I am going to lobby MF's to put "Jazzer" in place of Google :icon_razz:) Jazzer and shameless self promotion :) |
