Ok its time for ruber in my rear (no nasty comments please). I have stock 17x8 rims and am currently running 245x45x17 all around. I was thinking for more stability a wider foot print in the rear would be nice. How wide can I go on these 8 inch rims and what size would keep the computer happy? What are you running? Lastly I know I will not be able to rotate if if keep the 245x45 in front but are there any concerns with running wider in the back?

If you have enough tread on the 245's run those andthrow on some 275's in the rear.. Thats what I have on my 17's. I dont think any wider than that will fit on a 17x8.

I would suggest getting a wider wheel/rim to go with a 275 or larger. It may appear to fit correctly and not give you any issues at first, but it will hurt you in the long run with irregular wear and possibly other major problems.

Trying to SQUEEZE or force as wide a tire as you can find on a narrow wheel/rim is really NOT a good idea.

I ran a 275 on a 8 inch rim on my 95 Impala and never had a problem. The 275 comes stock on a 9 inch rim, so thats only 1/2 inch per side, I don't see a problem, but I would not go any wider.

i agree, i do not see a major problem. you lust might wear the tire too much in some spots like said above.

Hey Quickshift are you or have you ever ran 275's on a 17x8? My last three sets have been 275's and every one of those were a different brand. You are fine running 275's on a 17x8 there is no irregular wear, major problems or rubbing in the rear if you are worried about that at all. I have mine lowered 2.5 inches with the 275's on and they have never rubbed.

Im guessing they will look goofy and wear more toward the middle. I know with to small of tire on a wheel looks bad. For about a week I had 24540/17 on my 17x9 and looked looked gay. They were so stretched and the wheel lip protector on the side of the tire was stretched to high to protect it and the whole little lip of the wheel went past the tire which was just asking to curb it or break it on a pothole.

Ok then, what is a practcal size to run other than the 245 45 17 for this rim. I know buying a new set of rims is an option but I just got a Bassani and am broke I need tires and was thinking tire rack online but want to make sure thewill fit first..........maybe I should just stick with 245 45 17 as I have in the front and be done with it?

What brand tire do you have now in the front?

Just get these... these are great tires and they will fit and look mean on your car.. plus I have these now but mine are 275's and they have lasted me a long time..
