Several things can cause this. Massive vacuum leak, lack of fuel, malfunctioning anti theft, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor. Did this just start suddenly, or have you been working on the car?

I'm not an expert on this but I had a similar situation occur the past week with my Stang.
While the car is running for those few seconds, step on the gas and give it a little rev and see if that keeps it going. It may just be a sensor that needs a little bit of time adjust and by keeping the motor on for a bit longer by revving it, it would give it the necessary time to engage and then run like normal. Just a suggestion to try out...

I've had start issues with my '97 GT. Mine was fuel related though. She would start up and then die with no idle. I put some fuel cleaner in the tank and was good to go. Other than that I have to warm her up for a couple minutes, apparently it's due condensation build-up (over night). My dad told me to keep the gas tank 1/2+ full and put fuel treatment in it every once in a while.
-Hope that helps
