Default Shifter Bezel for Automatic?

I bought a billet shifter bezel ring for my '04 GT automatic and it says it simply pops on for a one minute install. Um, it doesn't fit. Doesn't fit my '03 V6 auto, either. The problem is the automatics plastic cover around the shifter - it's pretty tight against the outside console.

Anyone know a way to install this or should I return it? Anyone know of one made specifically for an automatic?

On my old 97 GT auto, I installed one without problems that I remember. Mine was the Bullitt style that you had to screw the little bolts in. Are you taking the bezel off for install?

I forgot to add, my shifter bezel was an aftermarket one, ordered off of Ebay. A true Bullitt factory piece may just pop on, I am not sure how those go on. Maybe someone can chime in. It may be that a true Bullitt one may not have gone on my auto, but since I had to drill in the little bolts to my old car, that that is what held it down. Either way it looked good.

Does the true Bullitt shifter ring from American Muscle just snap on or screw on?

I got mine from AM and wrote to them after it didn't snap on. Later that night, I simply pulled the console piece off, snapped the ring on and clipped the console back in. Gave me a chance to clean out the nooks and crannies too!

Just an fyi to automatic owners this is the easiest way to install and it snaps in clean and looks great. AM wrote me back the next day with the same idea. These guys are great!

Off topic but I also installed their chrome dash ring kit - what an amazing difference 6 little pieces of plastic can make!

I am glad you figured out how to get yours put on. I just received and installed the true Bullitt trim ring from American Muscle on mine. Much different than my old install. That was easy. It just popped on. It really finished off the look with my Hurst shifter. In my Hurst shifter post I updated the pics with the addition of the trim ring.
