Rearend shifted to right
 

I have a 1999 Mustang GT Convertible with 79000 miles. I was having new tires put on the other day and noticed that the rearend on the car has apparently shifted to the right about 1/2 an inch or so. What would cause this? The car has not been abused or driven very hard at all. I was thinking maybe bushings or something? Any ideas?

? sounds crazy? do u mean the whole differential/axle assy shifted right? toward the passenger side of car?

Yes....you can look at the right tire and its flush with the wheel well. The left side is tucked under the wheel well about 1/2 an inch or so. It's a noticable difference. To my knowledge the car has never been wrecked. At least thats what Carfax says anyway. Never noticed this problem until I put the 315/40's on the rear. But again...it's noticable.

have you looked under the car on a lift?

take to alignment shop and see if rearend is bent.. i drove my 1500 miles no problems but my rearend was bent half and inch on the driver side.Btw my got bent from hydroplaning into a curb

yea, best bet is take it to shop to have them look at it. at very least i would jack it up and check to see if all the control arms are good.

this problem hasnt existed to your knowledge? not sure if you may have noticed if there were wheel spacers installed? shop could have "accidentally" forgot to put the one back on...

These cars come from the factory with the rear ends shifted to one side or the other, most cars are barley noticeable, only a 1/4"- 3/8" or so, some are reeeeaalllly noticeable. I never noticed how much mine was shifted over until I got 10.5's with 315's on it.

I asked about this a couple years ago and I had a lot of people to say the same thing.

yep same here looked fine with the stockers...then with my 10.5 and 315s, the car looks bent sometimes.../shifted...idk

Looked at at the underside when it was on the lift. There appears to be no visible damage. There are no wheel spacers. Never noticed this with stock wheels. It was only noticable to me with the wider wheels and 315 tires. So I guess...it sounds like it just may be the nature of the beast.

a lot of ford products are like this... all shifted the same direction too, big problem in the trucks

i mean...not really a "problem"....if it bothers you, go to jegs.com and get a set of wheel spacers *theyre like $14 or something crazy cheap* and put a spacer on the side that is tucked in and leave the other alone...just make sure to measure how much more you want the wheel to come out, so you dont get the wrong size...

personally, ide just leave it how it is, wont hurt anything
