Default HELP!!! Bottom Out/Clunk from rear

Hey Guys,

Alright, I have had my 98 GT for 12 yrs now with approximately 260,000 miles and I got a problem I cannot figure out.

About 10 yrs ago I lowered the car with some Eibach Sportline Springs. Couple of months ago I started getting a bottom out/clunking noise coming from the rear of the car. The original shocks and struts were still on the car and thought that might be my problem (yes I realize these should have been changed a long long time ago). I replaced them and still had the same problem. I thought that maybe the springs had weakened over the yrs so I went and got some Eibach Pro Kit springs. I went with the Pro Kit so that it would also raise the car back up some to help with my problem. I just got through installing all four new springs last night and I still have the problem.

It does not happen as often but I did have the problem a couple of times on the way into work when going over sharp bumps. It only happens when going over sharp bumps where there is an inch or so step up from asphalt to concrete or something similar. It doesn't happen so much when going over dips or even really big dips.

My car rides a lot smoother now but I would like to correct the other issue. Can anyone recommend anything to look at or check? I checked everything in the rear and evrything seems tight as far nuts and bolts.

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

Yeah, maybe. I thought that at one point and even pulled out on the little springs to stretch them out but it looks like those are used to push the trunk lid up when opening. Looking online it looks like the are some little rubber bumpers that keep it from making metal to metal contact. Maybe those or do you think it could be the latch needing adjustment.

my trunk does something when I hit some really bad stuff in the road. I'm sure it's the trunk. I might try that latch adjustment myself.

its prob your exhaust hitting the the rear axle, mine has done it for a long timee after i bought a cheap flowmaster kit off ebay, i just changed to sss exhaust and it still hits just not as much, but like you said only when i hit a sharp bump.

Is your pinion snubber still there? If it fell off from being old or something, your rear axle assembly could be jumping up and smacking the underside of the car. Just my two cents.
