How far is too far with forged internals?

I'm doing forged internals this winter and am curious how to know how high is too high?

I have a Procharger D1 now with bolt ons and @ 13lbs with a lot of timing out.

I dynoed at 383rwhp and am looking to just crank the boost up and not worry about these horrible rods we have.

What power level could I safely handle, or is it more complicated than that? I'll be running an svt focus fuel pump and KB boost-a-pump with 42lb injectors.

It depends on the internals you buy. My MMR block will rev to 8k without issue. (My blower on the other hand...)

Most forged kits can easily handle 500-600rwhp. If you goal is like 800rwhp or something like that you need really good stuff (coated pistons, I-beams, etc.). That fuel system will go to about 450rwhp.

Good luck,
Derrick

Are you going with dished low compression pistons? Forged crank?

It is a set of manley 18cc dished pistons and manley H beam rods on a stock crank. And your fuel system should handle 450 without a problem

This is what I had. I talked to a speed shop that did this on two twin turbo GT's that put down over 700 rwhp and never broke the stock crank. You will deff be fine because the fuel system, with a 40A boost a pump, will get you to 500 rwhp max by the time it maxes out.

you dont need coated pistons on a DD car and you want H beams. If you have alot of money billets would be the best way to go. The thing if you need to invest in the top end also, if you plan on spinning lots of rpm.

Deff go with the H-beams. They are a lot stronger than the I beams.

99 GT vert 09-20-2009 11:53 AM

yea that is what they are. i have the setup listed in my previous post 18cc dished pistons and h beam rods and the op maybe buying that from me since i am selling my car next spring

Contact companies that have kits, like DSS racing, CHP, Livernois, MMR, or whomever to see what they offer. Let them know what your plans are and how much you would like to spend. I have had prompt replies and great input from Livernois and MMR with questions.
