I let my 96 GT sit up for a year and have decided to get it running again.I had to replace the fuel tank, pump and sending unit.I cleaned out the fuel lines and changed the plugs. I thougt that I had a good shot of it starting, but I was wrong. The engine turns over fine, but will not fire.I have good spark at the coils, good fuel pressure. The exhaust does not smell of gas fumes and all conectors and vacuum hoses apear to be good.

Can someone please guide me to a past post, or give a good starting point.

The only thing I changed on the car while it was running was the exhaust; offroad X pipe and mufflers.

are u sure u are getting fuel?? did you check or are u just assuming because you changed the pump? if everything checks out it might be an electrical problem like with the alarm system.

There are 2 components to a running engine... fuel and spark. Where do you have good fuel pressure? Did you check for good spark at the plugs, or just at the coil? And while you have the plug out checking for spark there, check it for fuel too.

I run @ 2 gallons of fuel out of the shrader valve on top of the fuel rail. I do not have a gauge to accurately read fuel pressure,so I am guesing that the pressure is good.Not the best thing to do,I know. Will get an accurate measure of that ASAP.

Is does bother me that there is not an unburned fuel smell from the exhaust.

What are the chances that the injectors are frozen?

As far as spark, that is good at the coils and my wires are good.

I tried using a little starter fluid to try to get some form of combustion but no luck.Leading me to think of a firing problem.

It is as if I have both ( no fuel/spark ) at the same time.....

I had not thought of theft system.

very unlikely that all of ur injectors are frozen. but if you are concerned about that pull an injector and crank the engine see if its spitting. if you are getting fuel but its still not firing then you should smell a strong aroma of gas coming from your exhaust.


my dad's 95 had the same problem ur having. everything checked out but car still wasn't firing. turned out it was his anti theft system. not saying thats what u have but something to check out.

The injectors do concern me....I will check them tonight by pulling one or more and turning the engine over. Everything else I have checked has been good...spark at the coils, spark at the plugs, signal to the injectors, fuel pressure

as massred98gt said ...I should be able to smell gas from the exhaust, but I can't which leads me to the injectors.

As far as the theft system,what do I need to look at, and how do I get around it?

OK checked the injectors on the drivers side, all 4 spit some fuel....still no smell of fuel from the exhaust.

Again tried to fire it with ether...no luck

The first few times I tried to start the car it shook pretty hard. I then had to replace the battery and now all it does is turn over.The motor shaking is gone.
