Default How reliable is the 4.6?

WHen could i expect problems? and How many miles is the engine good for? Assuming that the engine wasn't abused, but pushed every now and again.

Well let's just say there's a reason these engines are in cop cars... when they are cared for they can last a very long time.

dont even get me started on this subject ....i was very displeased with my 2v 4.6

shot spark plugs
intake manifold cracked
head gasket leaked
alternator took a ****
lifters developed a tick
timing chain tensioners wore out
i had a small oil leak from the rear main seal
valve cover leaked
2 COPs blew out

and that was all in the year and a half that i had 4.6 in it...now that junk is ripped out

as for the rest of the car

transmission locked up
rear end spider gears broke
it also had a fuel leak when i got
fuel pump took a ****
if you filled it until the gas pump shut itself off, it would cough up atleast 1/4 gallon of gas all over the ground
tie rods had to be replaced
steering rack bushings rotted out

yet i still own and love my car....just glad i dont have a 4.6 in it anymore...engine, transmission, and rear end all took a **** in my car, and some suspension and steering parts...atleast the chassis is nice??

i think i just had a horrible engine....

the engine has moved on to a kid i know's v6 mustang...so far in 2ish months its been installed, it has burned up an alternator, and developed an overheating problem....you couldnt pay me to put another mod motor in my car unless it was a 4v out of a 03/04 cobra

I understand but there have been plenty of people who haven't had any where near this many problems... and as I recall you had a fair amount of miles on that 4.6. And judging by the "look" of the car when you purchased it... I would sort of fear what the previous owner did to it.

I see all your problem and I think to myself, "Wow, I bought my within 45 minutes of seeing and then immediately put 500 miles on it the first day then 21K miles on it over the next 11 months and I never did anything except change the oil, LOL" Heck, I never even cracked open the rear diff till last fall. I'm sorry, you had so many issues.
