Default trans spec questions

hey can someone post a listing of all 99 through 04 transmissions and the max torque they can handle if theres not a list already. Im debating whether to rebuild the trans in my 99 or go with a tremec or put a stock 03-04 cobra 6 speed. My build will be forged internals cams and a s/c or turbo if this helps..thanks a lot

the 99 gts came with the t3650. the 04 cobras came with the tremec six speed i belieive the the 6 speed will withstand 600 or so hp and ftlbs of torque with the stock gears in it. you can buy the upgrade kit from richmond gear look into getting the upgraded syncros i beliver you can also get them from tremec. tremec transmissions has also come out with the t56 magnum which is capable of withstanding around 750ft lbs of torque and 750horsepower

actually i believe that 1996 - 2001 was the tremec t-45. and from 2001.5 to 2004 was the tremec tr-3650. now the cobras in 2003-2004 had the tremec t-56 six speed. im not sure what the cobras in 1999 and 2001 had though. but t-56 > tr-3650 > t-45

From the Red Book:

fitment:

'94 to '95 used the Borg-Warner produced T-5;
'96 to '98 used the Borg-Warner produced T-45
'99 to '01-1/2 used the Tremec produced T-45;
'01-1/2 to '04 used the Tremec 3650;

Input Torque Ratings:

the BW T-5 is rated for 300 lbft (I have seen 310 in some sources);
the BW T-45 is rated for 320 lbft;
the Tremec T-45 is rated for 325 lbft;
the Tremec 3650 is rated for 360 lbft;

Ouput torque ratings would be the input torque limit times the selected gear ratio.

The OEM T-56 used in the Cobras is rated for 450 lbft input torque.

----------------------------------------------
Transmissions are not rated by HP, at least not by their manufacturers or any engineer, although yolu will often see HP ratings applied. HP is a function of torque and time (RPM), so it cannot be expressed as simple HP without an RPM reference value. That said, often the RPM is implied to be 5252 (many V8s have their peak power aorunf that speed), where the torque and HP ratings are equal..

For example, the 3650 with a 2000 RPM input has an input HP capacity of 360 * 2000 / 5252 = 137 HP, at 5252 RPM the input HP capacity is 360 HP (360 * 5252 / 5252), at 7000 RPM it would be 480 HP.

Hooked up to a Honda S-2000 at 9500 RPM it would be 651 HP...

wow great info thanks for post. Now my next question is changing up the rear end. Will that take any stress off of the transmission? if any? (3.73 gears,detroit locker, moser 31 spline axles) thanks

No, the torque being handled by the tranny will remain the same...
