Snow Tire Size?

Snow Tire Size?
Will a Blizzak 225/55-17 snow tire fit my wheel wells with no rubbing? I have a '98 GT with the 245/45-17 tires as the factory size. I know that the snow tires will be narrower than the 245s, but I'm concerned that the taller (55) tires will rub on the fenders or the suspension.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

You must live up in the mountains if you expect to see a lot of snow in California. You shouldn't have a problem but it will throw off your speedometer about 4%. the wall height of the 225/55-17 is 123. The wall height of a 245/45-17 is 110. The 225/55 tire has almost exactly the same circumference as a 245/45-18 which a lot of people run. Go the the following link if you want to compare other sizes.

i just picked up some V6 aluminum rims off craigslist for $130 for all 4 and putting 225/55/16 snow tires on my 04 GT. its cheaper finding 16" snow tires and more common. when you get into 17's they become more like truck tires.
plus im planning on getting rims and tires off american muscle, so i dont know if ill even use the stock 17's again...

The height number (45, 55, etc...) isn't a set numerical value. It's the aspect ratio. It's just a percentage of the width.
So your stock tires, 245/45/17, the sidewall height is 45% of the 245mm width. With the snow tires you're looking at, the sidewall is 55% of the 225mm width, so it's only a 13mm difference in height.

Thanks for all the great help, except from the NERD. It must be nice to perfect, a perfect looser. If you don't have any constructive comments, go back to asking your mommie for gas money. If I had the money, I'd park to Mustang until Spring. Since I don't, like the other 20 million people out of a job due to the economy, I have to make do.
Thanks again everyone, except the NERD.

I wasn't very helpful. I should add to be nice, that you can buy a decent winter beater for the cost of a good set snow tires and wheels. My last beaters were a 98 S10 2.2 and a 91 awd GSX. I paid 500 for the truck and 1100 for the car. Park the car if you can.

$500 for a car that would BARELY make it through one winter lol. just get spare set of rims(dont have to be pretty) and decent snow tires and keep swapping them. takes up less space than another car and less of a hassle.
search craigslist.
