Yet another gear question...sorry
I am wanting 4.10 gears but have heard I need a programmer to adjust the speedometer and to tune it up. If I just got a speedcal would that do the trick for me instead of buying a $400 programmer? If this doesnt make sense then let me know because from what ive heard a speedcal just adjusts the speedo and doesnt tune anything for performance but something such as an xcal would adjust the speedo and I could also tune my car for performance gains.

It depends on whether you have an automatic or manual transmission. The speedcal devices I have seen listed online can only be used for 5-speeds.

if you get the gears installed in a shop, you won't have to buy a programmer. they can just give you a chip with a basic tune on it. that was my choice. the chip was 150 and speedcal 100. but with the chip i would have to run 91 octane. so i just opted for the speedcal.

nah, they can be used for autos too. i gave acer my old speedcal out of my 04 GT 5 speed with 3.73s and he's getting it put in his 98GT auto for 4.30s.
