Can you elaborate and/or point me to more information?

Thanks,

Thanks,
he means put some 3.73's or 4.10's in. 4.10's will throw you up to about 2500 rpms at 65 but make a hell of a difference down low.

on the antenna you can just unscrew it take a pair of pliers and pop the end off and take a hack saw to it to your desired length and then sand the end a little bit at an angle and then take some super glue or something and squirt a little in the end and tap it back on with a hammer. or spend $20-$25 on one of these.

I don't understand. Will new gears fix the noise or help with shifting?

From the data I provided, what ratio do I have now, 2.73:1 or ?

The more I drive the car, the more I believe yes, I need more practice shifting but also it needs to be tuned up. At very low RPM, it bucks quite a bit. If this was my Beemer, I would suspect the throttle bodies are out of sync, but I don't believe that is an issue with my engine. Or is it?

I appreciate all the help with the responses.

I have one more question (for now). The PO gave me his Haynes book. Is this O.K. or should I get something else for basic tune ups?

Thanks again.

Haynes manual is alright. New gears changes the ratio that your tires spin per rotation of the drive shaft. Ex: if you have 4.10 gears for everytime your drive shaft rotates once, the tires will spin 4.10 times. For 3.73, each time the drive shaft rotates once the tires will spin 3.73 times. And so forth. This will act like a torque multiplier and will not give you and power. It will not help with your shifting. It might help the gear noise becuase you might have some bad gears in them. They might be tore up. The differential would be the first place I would start to look. My suggestion is have some one drive it and walk behind the car and listen to where the noise is coming from. Hope this helps. Gains from gears is about 1/2 a second off the quarter mile.
