5th will actually pull like a non-overdrive gear with 4.10's...well at least more than it would with a lesser rear end gear. I bet you can get your car to top out at the same spped as someone with stock rearend gears, you will just spend more time in 5th than they do.

With a horrible driver.

Any decent driver should be able to break 14.5's stock. I've witnessed a friend take his bone stock 04 GT to 13.8's, but don't count on duplicating that yourself, takes one hell of a driver and a lot of runs.

Yup, buddy of mine just pick up a bone stock 02 GT with every option. He cracked off a 14.2. It was the first time he had even driven a Mustang. Had to give him a pat on the back for that one.

It also come down to were you are located. A sea level run nets a 99-04 GT with a decent driver a 14.1. I ran my fastest of 14.0 on a very warm night with just a catback and catted mid pipe.

4.10s with a the 3650 used in a GT will run out of gear at 170ish. A full bolt on GT won't run over 160. The aerodynamics of 99-04 stang hurts performance.

If you are looking for more top end in 4th switch down to 3.73s (why you need more I don't know). But you are sacrificng accleration for top speed in a gear by going down.

What does how much horsepower have to do with how fast you can go. For example lets say with 3.27s I could run my car up to 6050 rpms in 4th gear I would be doing bout 140 mph, a car with 900 hp will do the same speed in the same gear at the same rpms. If you were to change the gears or tires it would be a different story.
a car with more power would be able to push through wind drag at 140 better than a car with less hp. if you are at 140 mph and your engine cannot exert any more force than the drag you will stop accelerating. if you are at 140 mph and your car can still exert more force than the drag, you can accelerate. makes sense, eh?

Most of the magazines that first tested the Mustang said it would run a low 14, High 13 w/ a good driver.. If you're not a good driver, try getting some slicks, that way you can preload your engine a little more than w/ Street tires.. Until you learn the art of launching, use a crutch, there's nothing wrong with it...
