what is the difference between them besides mach 1's higher compression pistons?

cobra has forged internals, i don't think the mach 1 does.

mach 1 motor came from the mercury marauder. it seems to be more aggressively tuned that the 99-01 cobra motor, even though the rating is less. i think ford changed the intake runner length and a few other tweaks to the computer program.

i thought the cobra motor didn't have forged internals until the 03/04. the mach1 has that shaker janx and has higher compression.

hmm, could be. a friend of mine bought a 99 cobra brand new. he was really into mustangs and quite knowedgeable about them. he told me about the forged internals then, and that's what i'm going on, of course he could have been wrong, or just blinded by how much he liked the car.

I believe that the mach has an aluminum block and a cobra has a steel block or something like that. I remember the cobra and the mach having a block made of two different materials. I can't remember which two they were though.

The Mach 1 motor is a totally different engine from the one in the 99/01 Cobra. It's an all aluminum design, block and heads. Along with the previously mentioned 10.1:1 compression, it has a redesigned intake, different intake and exhaust cams, heads that are shared with the 03/04 Cobra. It does have a forged crank in the 5-spd models.

Ummm... its basically the same engine. Like mentioned above, they do have different cams, it is still an aluminum block like the '99-'01 Cobra and it has a different upper and lower intake. Thats about it.
