electronic ignition issues

i am having what i suspect may be a common problem with my 2003 4.6ragtop. i was driving and the car suddenly developed a "dead spot" in the power band. the car bogged down and would not respond and then would kick in and accelerate. this happened a couple of times within 10 minutes, until the car just died and would not re-start. now motor will turn over for a few seconds before cutting out and then not re-start. ANY IDEAS?

Any codes? Something like this happened to me a while ago and it turned out that one of my cats collapsed and clogged my mid pipe (it was a good time to upgrade). You can check that pretty easily by getting a rubber hammer and hitting the cats one by one. If the catalyst sounds loose or coming apart that could be your issue. If not... Is your yellow THEFT light blinking? Are you getting fuel and/or spark? Does the engine seem to turn at a normal speed without any abnormal noises?
