Default 2001 Tranny Problem - help

Just got a 2001 Cobra (5-speed)with 17k miles. Shifting into first feels like there is no synchro at all. If the car is moving even a little bit, like to a stop sign, you can't shift into first without grinding the gears. Once at a complete stop, it will sometimes grind into gear unless putting it into second before going into first. All other gears are perfect and there is no noise. I checked the clutch cable and throwout and all seems normal. Pedal feels fine and no noticeable looseness. Clutche engages about halfway through the pedal travel.

Is it possible the synchro is already shot? Is there something I missed in the clutch setup? Car still has factory warranty, so that's a relief. I still would like to see if there is anything I can do before taking it to the shop. Any sugggestions appreciated.

Don't quote me on this, but I remember reading somewhere that this was a very common problem with99+ Cobra's.
