Head Gasket for high HP car
 

I'm hoping to be around 550rwhp with the build over the winter and probably under 16 lbs of boost on a D1SC.

What would be the best head gasket that's not overly expensive like Cometic?

Just wondering, why would you even worry about price especially with a high HP build?

+1... youre dropping enough in the motor to handle 550rwhp, i would sure hope you dont cheap out....

i did hear something about felpro having a high end head gasket set....buddy just ordered them for his 700rw cobra

but on summits site it says



aaaand to add more to my edit, i put a set of these in my stock 2v, and ran them for like 10k miles...sold the motor to some HS kid and he already blew one after like 3 months...not sure if it was the kid or the gaskets...just know they didnt last long

i did also use felpro gaskets for the 460 i have...when i build the stroker i will be using cometic though



what are you doing to make 550? your cardomain just shows bolt ons... you going to build a bottom end or anything for it? or just turn up the boost?

Tim, Lizzyfan, 99BlackPony - Thanks for the info, what you quoted was confusing me as well when I was searching a few days ago. Any specific links to a gasket to get? Money isn't the main issue; it's more the fact of spending an unnecessary 130ish bucks for something of the same or near quality.

I haven't updated my CarDomain in a bit but i'll be building the bottom end, upgrading the fuel system, and some induction work. 550rwhp would be great but i'd be happy with over 500.

i would say just get felpro...and if you end up toasting them, switch to cometic...but theres plenty of people using felpro head gaskets without issues

From what I've read on theturboforums.com, the factory head gaskets are just fine even under high boost.
I just put a set of these on my trickflow headed long block I'm building.

Quick question, you're only taking the motor OUT of the car over Thanksgiving right? Not tearing the top end off?

I got to thinking about that the other day, I'd rather watch you monkeys take the top end apart (even though i suppose it'll be 10X easier on a stand than it was in the car).
