Default Need help in selecting a new v

Hello

I recently had my honda wrecked by a drunk driver. This of course means I'm getting a new car, but there in lies the problem.

I've narrowed it down to getting myself either a 1993 camaro z28 or a 1997 mustang gt.

I've already been to a good z28 and of course they supported their car because it's faster, but I've come to understand that mustangs are normally far more reliable, and I understand that their engines last longer. Unfortunately I've also heard that the 4.6 models are dogs when it comes to parts.. expensive they say.

If anyone could shed some info and aid me in making the right decision I would be greatful.

A gt is easier to find and the gas/insurance will probably be a lot easier to handle than a z28.

The 4.6 aftermarket is getting better all the time, and actually it's not as bad as some people may say. The 4.6 is the only engine I know of for which you can get a set of almost new heads complete for less than $500. Parts are not much more expensive than a 5.0, and as more companies jump on the bandwagon, it's getting better and better. It gets expensive if you are talking about an intake swap or forged internals, but other than that it's not too bad. GM intakes for the fuel-injected cars are pretty steep also, so it's really a matter of which car you prefer. Taking style into consideration, go for the GT.

depends on mileage...it's rumored that the ignition on those LT1's goes out after about 80k on some cars...I'd watch out. 97 isn't my favoriteyear personally, but I'd go with the reliable one...stang.

Anyone who's ever worked with a GM knows after 80k miles, that's when parts start to fail and fall apart.

a 93 Z28 would violently spank a 97 GT, even with bolt-on mods. If your looking for performance, and if you have some cash to keep it maintained, I'd go for the Z28.

z28's and their cousins are nortorious for falling apart after 80k miles. I would stay away from a 10 year old camaro. we are all biased here, but since you need a daily driver replacement, absolute speed should not be your priority. the mustang will fit the bill nicely.

Doesn't take too much money to mod a 97 GT and get a few .10'ths out of it.
