Default Engine wash

After my car hit a deer i went to a body shop to get it painted again. However after they completed the body work my engine looked like hell and was all dusty, so i went today and washed it myself with low pressure. however when i washed it i didn't cover up any COP's or anything.

after doing this i went down the road and about 4-5 miles later i noticed a good shaking coming from under the hood, turned the radio off and it sounded like water maybe entered the engine, and when i try to romp on it, it has pep until about 3k-3500 revs then my service engine soon light blinks like crazy, and almost feels like a misfire.

could i have blown a COP?, somebody told me to replace the air filter because water probably entered the filter along with the dust and whatever else those body shops have floating in the air?

anybody else have this problem? Thanks.

Washing a modern engine with all the electronics is a no-no imo. Barring that, scan the computer and get the codes, pull the cops and blow out the plug wells in the heads. Go from there.

I have washed mine several times and have never had an issue. Just to get the dirt and dust off does not take hard spray. Spray it off and make sure you have some sort of blower to get all the water out that is laying in all the low spots. I guess I have just been lucky.

i washed my engine bay with no problems, covered my COPs, battery and alternator with plastic bags, and soaked the rest of the engine bay. it turned out sick, comparing to what it was before

Most here will tell you not to spray water on your engine, and they're probably right. However, I wash mine somewhat frequently. Hell, I even get in there with a wash mitt and clean every nook that my hand will fit into. The trick is to make sure it's completely dry before starting and driving it. I use a leaf blower for about 10 minutes, concentrating mostly around the COP's and upper areas of the engine and it's good to go.
