PI vs NPI intake

PI vs NPI intake
I found a few limited threads after I searched and I wanted to make sure I have the right answer. I noticed that my first intake runner (closest to the front of the car) runs to the driver side. Does this mean I have a PI intake. Just making sure before I go out and buy one . Is there anyother way to find out.
One other question. After a PI swap I am assuming that one would have to use PI valve covers for the bolt pattern. So if my car had a PI head swap done, would the oil cap be moved from the driver to the passenger side?
Thanks guys.

Most pi heads were romeo just like your npi heads, so the valve covers would be the same. usually you can tell if its had a pi intake swap is by looking at the coolant crossover, but thats not always 100% accurate because you can swap an aluminum npi crossover to the pi intake and not have to drill/tap the pi one. I think the intake runners are different in relation to each other, but I never paid that much attention to mine to know for sure.

I have a PI motor in my 96 gt and I swear you would not be able to tell that it's a PI motor. Same NPI valve covers and that little box that's sits in between the CAI and TB isn't even there. It;s funny when I pop my hood and ppl say it's a PI. lol It looks the same!!! Except for the sound and power

i've been waiting for a threat like this, to ask what does PI stand for? i'm guessing the "N" in NPI stands for "non" so i won't even ask about NPI. do some years of mustangs have PI and some have NPI? what's the advantage of either one? does one work better than the other with boosted applications? any explanations would be very helpful

Thanks guys. It looks like I have a PI intake which is a good start. I am going to change plugs and wires this week and I might just take off the valve cover and take a look. Is there anyway to tell the difference between NPI and PI cams/heads if they are still bolted to the engine?
also, good link diff between NPI/PI engines.

If you can find the part # on it with a mirror I think its near the exhaust ports. otherwise you can tell the diffrence by if you car feels like a honda its probably NPI :P. Although I think a compression test might work since the PI heads increase the compression on NPI blocks.

If they are windsor style heads then they will have 13/14 bolts on the valve covers and are all pi heads, if they are romeo, then they will look like the npi heads and you would need a part number or pull the intake.

you can also see here all the differences between the pi and npi intake
