Question Hard to shift when warm, clutch cable?

Ok im running out of things to try.. ive got a 96 gt w/ manual tranny.
when i first go out in the mornings an the cars cold i have no problem innnay gear but oncethe car runs for 15-20 mins i have to force it in to gears and i have to put it into reverse before i start the carr if i wanna go back.
Ive changed the tranny fluid. i dont think its the clutch itself because once in gear she will fly. can a clutch cable stretch? i have slack on both ends of the cable, and i cant adjust the "quadrant?" everytime i try it just ratchets right back to the lowest position. ive searched the threads cant find any listing like mine. any help would be greatly appreciated

It sounds as thought the OEM platic quadrant has failed, how much freeplay is in the pedal when you can't get in to gear (press on it with your hand until the ToB starts to press on the clutch spring)?

It should be 1-1/4" to 1-1/2", not more than 1-3/4" max...

Clutch cables can stretch out, but if it shifts fine at first then starts acting all weird I would look elsewhere. I'm cliffy here and say check the freeplay. If there is a lot, replace the quadrant and cable. Use a ford OEM cable, as the adjustable ones are garbage and break all the time.

i forget the name, but its whatever the book calls for ....mercon?... and theres lots of play id say almost 2inches of free play in the clutch cable. i just dont understand y it works till warm unless the cable is somehow expanding when its warm..

Replace your quadrant and clutch cable and also get a firewall adjust too. Remember to get an OEM cable.

At the risk of being annoying, how much freeplay is in the pedal?

Press on it with your hand until the ToB starts to press on the clutch spring, there should be 1-1/4" to 1-1/2", not more than 1-3/4" max...
