Default gears installed, now noise, clank

Ive done 2 installs so far, 373s and 430s in my friends mustangs with a perfect install no noise at all...I switched out my 373s this weekend for 410s and now I have some noise...first on decel its a slight gear noise that the 430s made but went away after break in...another is a high pitched sound really faint at high speeds and the 3rd which may not be the gears in a bang/clunking sound that happens shifting and from forward to reverse...it sounds like the rear but the backlash was set at .011 and pinion preload was 25 in/lbs.....could it be U joints? the driveshaft was tightened down good but its almost like a sloppiness sound...it was a perfect install i dont see why they should make any noise at all...the only thing im worried about is the pinion depth...for some reason im not feeling right about the shim used...i used a .012 shim on the pinion and it read 1.910 is there anyone who did 4.10s who knows what the correct shim size is? it should be the same for every 8.8 id think

I think it could be the u joints. I have the same problem and so did my buddy with a 95 gt. He got 4.30s and he thought that was the problem but he ended up changing out the yoke and u joints and it fixed it.

From my understanding there can be variations in the size of shims you need for the pinion gear. If I'm not mistaken, to find the size of shims you need for the new pinion is you measure the stock pinion head and the thickness of stock shims. Then you measure the new pinion head and add shims to get the same measurement from the stock pinion head and shims. The backlash you got is in the "safe zone" or whatever you will call it.

How long have you had the gears in for? Did you take multiple measurements when finding out thicknesses or backlash?

And what brand dial indicator did you use? I'm looking for a good one for myself for when I do gears in my car.

Heres my problem, sounds to be the same thing switching directions 1st to Reverse, If you actually watch the wish bone in the video you can see the front of the rear end torque up and down depending on direction..

but my rear is stock as well too, and has play but I think conrtol arm bushings are playing a big part. Plus I already got some FRPP 4.10s ready to go in.

The gears are set up fine as I helped install them. I was saying U-joints as well since mine made a similar noise when they started going bad, though not as loud as his.
