Default What will work and what won't?

Before I start, I do know how to use the search button and I did use it and still couldn't find an answer to my question. I am most likley going to put another engine in my car because the one in my car now is on its last leg. I have a 98 GT and im looking to put a 99-04 GT engine in it. So, with that being said, I know the new engine will have no problem fitting in my car because it's basically the same but with more power but, what else will I have to change over to my car? Will all the wiring harnessess for the 98 work for the 99-04 along with the ecu? I basically just want to drop the new engine in it without having to change anything over but I don't know if thats possible. Also, my car is an automatic and don't want to do the 5 speed swap so do I have to find an engine that came off of an auto or will an engine off a 5 speed work? On a very tight budget because the wife (few choice words go here), decided to spend almost everything out of our $7,000 tax refund. So I have about $1,500 to play with. She kind of ruined all of the plans I had for my car so she no longer has access to my bank account. Any and all help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Umm, I think I heard of a guy who had a 4.6L out of a 2000 and put it in a '98. It's pretty much, as far as I know a direct swap except the '99 up use coil over plugs instead of coil packs and wires, so you'll need to keep those and the old fuel rails from the '98. I believe the old ecu should work too. I'll look and see if I can find where I read it. The 99-04s have performance improved (PI) heads, so that will be nice for you.

I know it's out of your price range, but this Ebay posting of a brand new 99-04 4.6L also has some information on 96-98 swapping information you might want to check out.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-04...14123016r29860

You can keep all your wiring and ecu, just swap your front acessories, timing cover and coilpack mounting brackets. If the motor is a windsor style motor then a few bolts the bolt the cover to the head will need to be bigger than your stock ones, if its a romeo then they are the same size.
