Default Removing shifter boot from the bezel

Looking for some help here!

I bought relatively cheap a complete bezel set (shifter, radio, door, gauge) that was already painted for my 04 GT. I am not happy with the paint, so I am in the process of sanding and following the guide in the stickys.

However, I am sort of stumped on exactly how to remove the leather shift boot from the shifter bezel (and of course what to use to re-install it!) I know others have done this, so what was your course of action?

Thank you!

I cut off the melted top of the plastic posts with a utility knife and remove the metal ring--then put it back together with the gray 3M double sided tape made for body mouldings and badges.

You can remove the boot from the metal ring by pulling the staples, and tape the boot in without the ring; that's how I fastened the custom boot I made for the MGW shifter...

Hey Cliffy,
I tried doin that shift boot mod that you did. I ended up f'in it up due to not quite understanding some of the steps. I decided to buy some new "stretchy" type of leather to attempt it a little differently. I'll post up a thread when I'm happy with the end product, if interested.
