Default Wrong Rear Shocks?

I've been looking for shocks for my 2000 Mustang Convertible, I went to an auto parts store and bought some Monroe shocks and when I got home I checked to see if they were right (I compared them side by side with the original motorcraft one) and to my surprise the Monroe ones were shorter, So I returned them and went to the Ford Dealer

At the Ford dealer I gave them my VIN and ordered the shocks, When they came in they were also shorter then the originals and they were full metal instead of having a plastic cover. I looked up the part number 5U2Z-18V125-VJ and it comes up 98-02 4.6l Shock..

So anybody run into this or know if the new shocks will work?

there about a 1/2" shorter than the originals (they look fully extended to)

Consider that someone might have put the wrong shocks on the car in the past?
Also there could have been an engineering change and Ford shortened the shock a little?
Is your car lowered? If so the shorter shock will work in your favor

That Ford number 5U2Z-18V125-VJ is the correct part number for your application. The only other listing available for that year rear shock is for a Cobra.

Maybe wrong shocks, One dealer told me I would have to order my shocks from Canada (car has DRLs, and Canada stickers, but MPH speedo....)

Car is not lowered, I am thinking I will be fine because 1/2" difference is at full extend, which rarely happens
