By the way my alternator voltage was checked and did appear to be fine even though it wasn't. If you wait too long, you may ruin your battery also. That what happened to me.

If you're just checking the votlage it at idle it may still show good. I would check it at higher rpms. Often times the brushes pull apart at higher rpms and the light will come on
