I remember mine being a PITA, I think I took a swivel and long extension, went over the top of the pipe and took an impact/ratchet to loosen the manifold bolt. I know I never removed the O2 sensors from the H pipe when I did my clutch and replaced the exhaust.

I have always left the oxygen sensors installed til after I drop the pipe, I just unplug them. You should be able to get a socket on there with a swivel and a couple extensions. Like penguin said, the pass side top nut can be removed by going over the top of the pipe with the socket and extensions

Well as far as removing the o2 sensor, i'm probably 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch away from being able to remove it. And I wasn't having trouble with the upper nut, it was the lower one I couldn't reach because that o2 sensor is right beneath it, so I can't get my socket with u-joint attached to all fit.

slide the extension up there and attach the socket after the sensor and then slide it up to the bolt. may need a swivel for that also.

so the nut is loose, but something is in the way of allowing it to be fully removed and out of the way? I don't really understand. For the bottom nut on the right side, I use a long extension attached to the ratchet, then a small extension one attahced to the long extension, u-joint, and your socket to get the nut loose(u don't necessarily need this particular set-up, but it works for me). You don't have to remove the o2 censor to remove the x-pipe.

+1 did you try undoing everything else first then doing this?

@ nascrchi
The lower nut is not loose. I can't fit my ujoint and socket up there to get it over the nut with the sensor in the way. We were only able to loosen the sensor but not completely remove it. I just don't have enough room up there to work with the socket without the sensor out of the way, unless there's a different way to bring the socket in from.

if you are not going to use the pipe in there now, CUT THAT B!TCH OUT! lol

seems you are having alot of trouble with this. cut the pipe bw the sensor and the flange so you can get a direct path to the manifold bolts.

if you need to reuse the pipe then i dunno what to tell you, im not there to see the clearance issues and pics help, but still cant get a real life aspect on it.

goodluck man, i would reall consider cutting it out as you seem more than halfway through this and this little snag is keeping u from the finish line.

Reach up to where the plastic connection harness is and unclip it. I've always done it this way and you end up taking off the O2 sensors after the mid pipe is out.
