metalic click when letting out clutch
Like the title states, I have a `00 GT 5 speed, & when I let out on the clutch, I get a metallic click or snapping sound when engaging a gear. It does not do it all the time, but it does most of the time, The noise sounds like its coming from the mid point of the car. Its not hurting anything as the car runs great, its just irritating. I checked the U joints, motor mounts, & even replaced the trans rear mount, but no dice. Sometimes I can get it to make the sound if its in gear, & I goose the gas & let up on it with the clutch engaged. I had a Ford mechanic listen to it & he just shrugged his shoulders & said "got me". Anyone else have this problem. The car only has 48K on it.
Thanks, Ken

update on clicking noise----FIXED----
I`m just updating my thread in case anyone else has this problem can find the fix. I took the car to several mechanics (including oner Ford mechanic) & no one could find the source. Today, I took it to an older mechanic in my neighborhood who has been working on cars in this really old garage for about thirty years. He put the car up in the air, poked around for around ten minutes with an automotive stehiscope, & finally shouts "AHAA" & See That?? pointing at the rear of the driveshaft where it bolts to the rear. What he saw was rust around the 12 point mounting bolts. He told me that when you see that ring of rust (not plain surface rust) around a bolt, that means its loose. Damn if he wasn`t right. He put a 12 point socket on the air ratchet, tightened it up & Volia! no more noise. He did not even want to charge me. Ain`t these old timey mechanics great??
