my guess is that he bought it used and doesn't know if it's got gears.

The salesman told me that the original owner had gears installed on it. I asked him what size and he had a weird look. He also told me a K&N filter was on it until I popped the hood and saw it was a stock filter. So I'm not sure if he was being honest about the gears or not.[>:]
