hard to shift into reverse
i have a 97' gt mustang 4.6 with a 5 speed. sometimes its hard to shift into reverse and sometimes it grinds when im puttin it in reverse. but the grinding slows down as i am putting it in. any ideas?

To make it not hard....make sure the e-brake is off and your foot is off the brake....as long has the car can roll like an inch when putting it in reverse, it wont be hard</P>

I have to be completely stopped to get my car into reverse...and I get the first gear downshift grind at like 5 mph when I have the clutch in and I roll to a stop.</P>
My Ranger is the same way, so isn't my brothers F350 super duty...With my Ranger, I need to put it in 5th gear before it'll go into reverse, otherwise it'll grind like a mother.</P>

clear the clutch, put it in first, or fifth, or just about any other gear before reverse, i had the same problem and after a while of puttin it in first before reverse, its so normal that i forgot i even had the problem...also if you feel it about to grind, stop!,,, and try clearing the gear...like i said, after a while of that, youll forget you everhad the problem

Is this something that happens after abusing the clutch too many times? I am asking because mine never grinds when going into first while moving or going to reverse. <IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"></P>

Ihave a 96 mustang gt 4.6l. I have the same problem as u do, mines really hard to shift into reverse, it chaps my *** soo bad, its freakin embarrising. I thought it was just my car, but obviously its ur to, lol. <IMG src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0"> Peace out
