Default "Gutted" Mass air sensor

Have any of you guys gutted out your stock Mass Air Meter? I heard of a guy that did it, but I was wondering if it was actually possible. If so, how do you do it. Is it as good as buying an expensive aftermarket replacement? Thanks for the replies.

looking at your mods, you could probably better benefit from an 80mm mass air flow sensor, calibrated for 24lb injectors, get yourself a set of Ford motorsports 24lb injectors then a 255 fuel pump.......you'll be set!!!

Sounds awesome! But I was told that the bigger injectors and fuel pump would be a waste of money unless I put on a blower.

not true, i had went to bigger injectors with my mass air and had a walbro 255 on the 98. you will need a new fuel pressure regulator. bigger maf, cai, tb, injectors and you will have better throttle response throughout the rpm range

On my 305 TPI, I gutted the screens out of my MAF and gained .2 at the end of the track. It was a MAJOR restriction...I don't know if it works the same with these MOD engines.

I took out the screen on my maf. No problems yet. Couldnt tell you if it helped our hurt because went to track after it was done. But its real easy to do. Once its out blow through it and you will see the big restriction. Someone told me it smoths out the air flow and and it could hurt it, but what ever havent had any problems. Even if I did go to the track it wouldnt tell me if it helped because there are to many varibles to keep in mind for a tenth of a sec. gain. Any one got a dyno?

A new MAF and 'jectors would not be a waste at all. Plus, most blower systems come with MAFs and you wouldnt get an MAF and then get a blower, usually. Anway, it would make a substantial difference, even with new MAF, TB and injectors/pump;the engine is opened up way more, and in turn you'll get a good increase in power, especially with you exhaust already the way you have it.
