Default Traction Control...

I have an 04 GT 5speed.

I was reading this: The Mustang GT coupe ($23,245) and Mustang GT convertible ($27,585) come with a 4.6-liter V8 with single overhead cams and two-valves per cylinder rated at 260 hp at 5250 rpm and 302 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. To manage all that power, GT models are equipped with gas-pressure shocks with unique model calibrations, P245/45R17 performance tires on 17-inch alloy painted wheels, a Traction Loc rear axle, ABS and traction control. GTs come with sport bucket seats and fog lamps. The V8 mates with a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox with a tall fifth gear for improved fuel economy. A four-speed automatic ($815) is optional. Optional audio systems include the MACH 460 ($550) with in-dash 6-CD changer and the MACH 1000 ($1,295).

Im pretty sure I dont have traction control, and I see no buttong to toggle it on/off. But im Not sure if I have ABS... How can I tell if I have it?

Do you not have a button below the radio that says "Trac Off". 99% of cars built now-a-days come with ABS.

I think TC may have been an option as part of the premium package

Some years it was an option and I think on later years it (TC) came standard. If you don't have a button to disable it then you don't have it. I have mine permanantly disabled via a tune.

With an 04 I'd be surprised if you don't have trac control. I'm pretty sure it became a standard feature on all GTs in 02 or 03. Look in your owners manual for the specifics - that's what it's there for.

To test your ABS -- find a BIG empty parking lot without light poles or other obstructions. Bring the car up to about 30 and then hit the brakes hard. You don't have to try to lock the tires up, but you need to be close to the threshold. With sufficiently hard braking you should hear and feel (in the brake pedal) a fast pulsation. That's your ABS kicking in and preventing your tires from locking up.
Note: Do this at your own risk -- it's possible to crash, spin your car or otherwise lose control doing this. Don't be macho and try it at high speed, it'll work as well at low speed as at high.

How bout instead of him wasting his time tearing up his car to find out if it has ABS, he should just turn the key to the on position and on the dash the (ABS) light will come on as will the Traction control to the left of it, then they go out.
