Default transmission

I know you guys have had to change out a tranny before. If you could let me know how hard it was and what you did step by step to complete the job, also how hard was putting in a clutch, also what to do with the flywheel? I have a 1999 GT and putting in a new T-45. What type of clutch do you suggest and how much would it cost?

Well, if you have patience, it isnt that hard at all. You have to take the driveshaft off, loosen up all the mounting bolts, take the tranny mount off, remove the clutch cable and lower the tranny down. Then you will have access to the clutch, PP and flywheel. It all goes in the way you took it out. Make sure you have the spline alignment tool for the clutch and the PP or the tranny wont mount back correctly.

You can get the tool from where ever you order your cluth. They cost a couple of bucks there are just a piece of plastic that acts like the transmission shaft for when you are installing your new clutch.

And like jd said it isnt that hard. here are some hints I just installed a new Trans last weekend.
Remove the starter, exhaust, trans crossmember, drain your old fluid out so you don't make a big mess with the drive shaft out, I started on the top 2 bolts with the trans x-member out I attached a ratchet strap to the strut towers and tilted the engine so I could get to the bolts and than tilted it back down and un did the rest of the bolts and of course had a jack on the trans to remove it. I would have the flywhell resurfaced while you have everything out. Most machine shops can do this it cost like $30

I think most clutch kits come with one.

I can tell you one thing, dont get a rebuilt T-45 unless you personally know the rebuilder.

On second thought, don't get a T-45 at all. I went this route and bascially wasted 700 for the trans and 300 on the clutch (which I went ahead and replaced when I did the trans again) not even a year later. T-45 simply cannot handle being powershifted or even speedshifted. I speedshifted the 2nd trans 1 time and it was all over.

If you are buying new, its gonna cost you around 1100 anyway. Spend the extra 900 or so and get something bullitproof like a TKO.
