Stock Power question with Auto
For a couple of months, I have owned a 2002 Mustang GT Vert with an Automatic transmission. The car looks like it just came out of the showroom and had 5,600 miles on it. I was told that someone bought it for his wife and she didn't really like it that much so didn't drive it that often.
Anyway, when I am at a stoplight and the light changes, I mash the pedal to the floor and I barely get any wheelspin. It feels like it accelerates pretty quickly. This is with the traction control off. If I have the wheel slightly turned, it breaks traction fairly easily, just not in a straight line. Is this just the posi-rear end? When it shifts to second, I do feel quite a bit of kick...much more than any car I have owned before so I don't think there is a problem with the motor. Also, if I am getting on the highway, and I mash the pedal, it cranks up to speed fairly quickly. I'm thinking that, these newer cars just bite the pavement better. This is my first automatic in such a powerful car. My last car was a Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo AWD with a 5 speed so I can't really compare the two. In the Dodge, I would just rev the crap out of it and bang the clutch to get all four wheels spinning.

RE: Stock Power question with Auto
sometimes I can just mash it and do a massive burnout, other times I'll mash it and just end up hauling ***. How fast are you hitting it? also, i've found that the right pavement can make a lot of difference in traction. Also, stock gearing is really really mild.

With what I have now, I stab the gas to 15mph and let off it will spin, and I have Nittos on it.
Mine peeled 2nd stock, and now peels and goes sideways into 2nd and chirps 3rd on occasion.
