Exclamation Transmission help! URGENT!

I have a 2000 mustang GT. Automatic. Just put a new tranny in and now none of the gears are clicking in place. ALSO i forgot the Dipstick do i need to drop the tranny to put the dipstick back in? i cant seem to make it reach.

I had a mechanic look at it and he said he doesnt know why the gears are not shifting.

If absolutely none of the gears are engaging whatsoever you need to add fluid. Obviously since you dont have a dipstick you're taking a total guess as to how much fluid is there. Its the only thing that can cause that from my experience. I've taken apart/been through the bottom end of the 4R70W a dozen times. I really wish Ford would have put a drain plug on the pan, was it really that hard to do?

I would not sit there and shift through gears too much if there isnt enough fluid BTW.

I dont know how not having the dipstick will effect the transmission. But let me get this straight, you can put it in R and the car reverses fine, but does absolutely nothing when you put it in D? Does it clunk, make noise or do you feel anything at all? This doesn't sound right.

Okay! we got the transmission in! thanks for everyones help...

BUT....

It will not leave first gear, go past 45mph. we think we put in to much transmission fluid. we have checked and to our knowledge it is all hooked up correctly. Will to muh tranny fluid bog it down and keep it from leaving first?

or what is the most likely scenario.

How many quarts of fluid did you put in?

Ok today we took it to Transmission Tech today they read the codes it was throwing at us and it turns out it had a bad Neutral safety switch. We replace it and now the new transmission is running smooth as it can be.

Thank everyone for the help and advice, im glad i chose this forum community.

If ford lives up to its name again, ill be back for help.
