RE: should i go 5.0 or 4.6
i dont mean to hyjack this post, but iv always wondered why ford decided to
make a switch and produce smaller engine in their mustangs?
does any1 know why they made the switch to 4.6?

5.0 easier to mod and cheaper parts than the 4.6, eventhough they have the same platform 1994-98 (sn95) although I did a paper on the history of the Mustang and the 1999-2004 is also a sn95 platform just different body style. I know it sounds crazy but that is what I found. Back to the topic, I love the 5.0's I do not think you will go wrong with a 5.0
Good luck shopping for your car.

ford has been going to all modular engines in all their cars. more power/liter in modular engines.
the 5.0 has a HUGE aftermarket with a ton of parts at a cheap price. both the 302 and 281 have a ton of potential. i like the sound of a 50 with l/t headers, o/r H pipe, and flowmaster catback

both are great cars and if you are driving on the street you can get pleanty of hp out of each engine. the 5.0 has more mods but the 4.6 mods keep coming out. myself i have a 4.6 and i love it, it is all in what you would like to do to the car and what body style you like better both are great

Reason #1- Fuel Economy. I'm sure Ford got a nice sized check from the government when the switched to the more effiecient 4.6 L.
Reason #2- Modular motors have less rotating mass making them, in theory, to make more power per liter then a pushrod engine.

RE: should i go 5.0 or 4.6
The main reason was emissions; the standards changed in the mid 90's and the 5.0 was not going to meet them or the Corporate Average Fuel Economy. The 4.6 offered much less friction and efficiency designwise. I remember in high school, my best friend and I used to ride around his his mom's 88 GT convertible. He'd floor it and you could literally watch the gas gauge go down. That car was 225hp@4200 rpm and 300ft/lb@3200 rpm. The PI 4.6 does better by way of fuel and is 260hp@5200rpm and 302lb/ft@4000rpm; a little more horsepower and torque, but at a higher rpm. They burn less at lower rpms.
